Recap AWS re:Invent 2017
The sixth edition of AWS re:Invent was great! At this five-day event, we were part of 42,000 other AWS partners, customers, software developers and analytics. We met awesome new people, held wonderful talks and attended interesting keynotes and sessions. Below, you’ll find a recap of the keynotes and announcements we enjoyed most.
Recap AWS re:Invent 2017
AWS re:Invent 2017 focused entirely on the needs of the cloud developers. This is almost tradition: with the exception of last year – when AWS aimed at Enterprises – developers always find themselves in the beaming spotlight of the re:Invent. Lucky them!
Soon, these developers can enjoy the announced services and tools, such as: Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS), AWS Fargate, Aurora Multi-Master, DynamoDB Global Tables, Amazon Sagemaker (Machine Learning made easy) and AWS Cloud9, a browser-based IDE.
Greatest keynote: Andy Jassy
One of the most amazing keynotes was Andy Jassy’s, AWS Chief Executive. According to Jassy, AWS will increase its software ‘stack’ with services such as artificial intelligence, and virtual and augmented reality. Jassy indicated AWS is increasing its innovation speed and is expecting to announce more than 1,300 new services by the end of 2017. His keynote was definitely one of our highlights of this year’s re:Invent.
AWS’ current facts
Jassy started his presentation with a brief update of AWS’ current state of affairs. AWS has:
- $18B revenue run rate
- 42% growth rate
- millions of various customers (technology startups, Enterprises and public sector users)
- thousands of system integrations, all built on AWS
Next, the Chief Executive presented the latest ‘Magic Quadrant’. This clearly showed that AWS is a huge forerunner in the World of Cloud. One of the studies revealed AWS obtains a 44% market share of the public cloud. That’s more than all competitors combined!
Jassy’s keynote’s conclusion was simple. The cloud allows us to do amazing this. The longer we wait with adapting the new technologies, the farther behind we’ll fall. Right now, we’re discussing and realizing ideas that seemed science fiction 3 years ago. The only thing that’s standing in our way, is our skillset. So, developers: enjoy your new software goodies.

As to be expected, we saw more great keynotes and sessions. Some of our favorites:
Traditionally, many announcements were made at AWS re:Invent. We’ve categorized and listed them for you (yes, we do love our lists. ;)). You can use the list as a reference, of send it to a colleague who couldn’t make it to Las Vegas.
Also, if you’d like to ask us something regarding the AWS re:Invent, meet inQdo at AWS re:Invent Recap in Amsterdam, December 14. inQdo is sponsor at this venue.
